IS BIG BUSINESS THE CULPRIT IN MICHAEL J. FOX DISEASE?

CAN diet sodas lead to Parkinson’s disease? The story of Hollywood star Michael J. Fox seems to answer this question.

And if recent studies are to be believed, it appears that the billion dollar chemical industry is the real culprit why Fox and many other patients like him would never be cured at least in a foreseeable future.

It turned out that while billions are being spent in helping the foundations that assist in finding cures for patients suffering from Parkinson’s Disease not a single centavo is being spent in finding the cause for the same.

CUTTING EAGLE'S CLAWS

WHEN does the country’s best interest come?

Is it when being subservient to a foreign power or when it decides to adopt an independent foreign policy stance?

These are the posers that former President Noynoy Aquino failed to contemplate on before taking a dig on incumbent President Rodrigo Duterte’s current stand on foreign policy.

During an interview in Thailand, where he visited the wake of late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Aquino claimed that his administration’s foreign policy had been an “independent” one, guided by what could be in the best interest of the country.

MISS UNIVERSE HOSTING TURNS INTO POLITICAL ISSUE

JUST like last May elections, the Philippines’ hosting of the 2017 Miss Universe pageant has become the current hottest issue on social media showing intense political division between proponents and antagonists of the event.

Some kind of voting has even began in Facebook with the Duterte administration supporters dominating the discussions with acerbic language that they have so mastered in recent months and as if adopting their principal’s manner of speaking.

The debate on whether to host or not began when a Facebook post by a certain Annie Serrano, signed by 58 individuals including business people, nongovernment organization representatives and…

HAPPINESS AS GRADE

CAN MONEY buy happiness or to some extent contentment?

For the Philippines’ top business minds happiness for them would be reports of zooming stock markets, improving credit ratings, and sparkling profits made by big business as they are sure signs of economic progress.

But, for Sen. Loren Legarda happiness is not always having pockets full of wads of cash but making sure that the future generation is safe and free from the dangers of global warming and climate change.

Even Department of Environment and Natural Resources secretary Gina Lopez has caught on the idea of gross national happiness, with plans…

'DISTURBING' DISPERSAL

TO borrow the words of outgoing United States Ambassador Philip Goldberg, the violent dispersal of protesters (mostly brainwashed indigenous people groups) in front of the US Embassy, was “disturbing” as it puts a face to President Duterte’s desire for complete emancipation from the country’s longest ally, US of A.

Disturbing in that it happened at a time when Duterte was in China, sweet talking it to the side of the Philippines (and conveniently tossing away the country’s hard-earned right over the Scarborough Shoal which China encroached in and built a man-made island to house its defense facility), conveniently extricating him…
