PRES. MAR

By Roly Eclevia

A law dean believes former DILG chief Mar Roxas is the leading presidential candidate despite all the surveys that place him on the third or even fourth place. The surveys, he maintains, “are endogenously inaccurate.”

In an article posted on the internet March 31, Mel Sta. Maria, dean of FEU Law School, observes Mar Roxas obtained 11,213,563 votes in the 2010 elections. To win the 2016 presidential race, he need only keep his support base intact.

That spells trouble for the three other candidates: Sen. Grace Poe, Vice President Jejomar Binay, and Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

DUTERTE PRESIDENCY LOOMS

By Atty. Salvador S. Panelo

Few weeks to the presidential election in May, 2016, and there appears to be a Duterte fever sweeping the country. It is a contagion that can not be contained notwithstanding the onslaught of negative campaign against him by the forces that either resist change or are fearful of the unknown.

Hamstrung by lack of finances as the tough-talking and cuss-spewing Davao City Mayor refuses to accept financial contributions from the usual huge financiers in a conscious effort to avoid indebtedness to them – Duterte directly appealed to the people in a taped video aired over…

BINAY COPYCAT

A presidential candidate is either a big liar or a hilarious copy cat.

Vice President Jejomay Binay, a leading candidate for Prfesident, is now saying he will continue with PNoy’s 4Ps program and even improve on it by adding teeth to it.

4Ps is PNoy’s Conditional Cash Transfer Program that has won the accolade from international groups including the World Bank.

Before Binay’s turnaround on the value of this 4P’s or CCT to the poor sector of Philippine society, he has been attacking the program as useless waste of money while politicizing it. The Vice President accused the administration of…

COMELEC GETS READY TO CHEAT

Credibility in the country’s voting system again takes center stage, as former Senator Richard ‘Dick’ Gordon has asked the Supreme Court to order the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to issue ‘receipts’ after qualified voters have cast their votes on May 9, 2016.

Earlier, the COMELEC said it is doing away with one safeguard in the conduct of honest elections, the “Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail” or VVPAT, reasoning that the issuance of the VVPAT or simply a “voter’s receipt” would delay the election and counting processes by at least five to seven minutes per voter.

But Gordon and other…

Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile is now a free man, albeit, temporary.  He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in a resolution that was announced early this week.

Legal experts say the SC decision to grant bail was some kind of an act of mercy by the SC.

Former Senate President Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. said Enrile’s grant of bail was mainly based on humanitarian considerations, given Enrile’s advanced age and voluntary surrender to the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court.

But Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who is a lawyer, has a different take on the matter.…
