THE government’s relentless campaign against old, dilapidated and smoke- belching vehicles literally went a notch higher and into the cyberspace with the launching of a digital platform where the public can report violators in real time.

It is seen to put order in the streets as the government expects active participation from the public with the launching of “Sumbong Bulok, Sumbong Usok” (SBSU) hotline by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (i-ACT).

The “Sumbong Bulok, Sumbong Usok” (SBSU) is a digital chatbot hotline that may be accessed via the I-ACT Facebook Messenger.

It takes a grateful alumnus of the University of the Philippines in Diliman to bat for improvements in the State University’s budget, by seeking the inclusion of fire prevention in the budget proposal of UP for 2019.

 

Rep. Salvador Belaro Jr., 1-Ang Edukasyon partylist and assistant majority leader, made this proposal after the fire that gutted the decades-old shopping center recently.

PIDS study bats for a  louder voice for women in govt's top posts

As the world celebrated last March 8 the women’s day, a louder voice through top positions for women in government and industry to ensure compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations was pushed by a study by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies, which was released today by the National Economic and Development Authority.

 

The study noted that women were sorely under-represented in the highest positions in both government and industry where the most important policies are decided.

Search for 2018 Outstanding Volunteers opens

The search for outstanding volunteers for 2018 is now open and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency of the National Economic and Development Authority is now accepting nominations.

With categories on youth, adult, not-for-profit groups and corporate organizations, the SOV seeks to recognize the contributions of the volunteer community to nation-building and sustainable development.

Marlon Taunan had to drop out of civil engineering in the University of Northern Philippines in early 2000 simply because his family could not afford his education anymore. He went to Manila in search of greener pastures that eluded him, but this did not stop him from seeking it.
