Swiss-based firm sees Duterte’s infra program lifting growth in 2018

Switzerland-based UBS, a global financial provider of business solution and advise, predicts the growth of the Philippine economy being lifted in 2018 by the Duterte administration’s mammoth BuildBuildBuild program.


In a call conference with media, UBS senior economist for ASEAN Edward Teather, said the massive infrastructure program will lift the growth in 2018 despite credit cycle excesses and inflation and the Fed policy tightening to induce rate hikes from Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

China to donate solar lights to Antique province, El Nido town in Palawan


China is donating close to 3,000 units of solar-powered LED street light and home solar power system to help communities in the province of Antique and the municipality of El Nido in Palawan province combat climate change.

This, as Secretary Roy A. Cimatu of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and China’s Zhang Young, vice chair of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the grant of solar energy devices to Antique and El Nido.

Support for Martial Law extension in Mindanao pours in

At least four partylists representatives have thrown their support for extending by one year Martial Law in Mindanao citing concerns about the safety and security of people and communities from terrorists.

Saab Magalona is irked by write-up

Young star Saab Magalona is upset.


It started when entertainment writer Rey Pumaloy saw photos in social media of Saab wearing bikini in her “infanticipating” stage. It was done in a beach for the bachelorette party of sister Maxene Magalona who’s engaged to fashion model Robbie Mananquil.


            Rey in his candid comments wrote that Saab’s form was “katakam-takam” (delicious) and “malaman” (fleshy). The Filipino language adjectives seemingly offended Magalona’s sensibility as she retorted to the writer’s column as “sexualizing” the scene.
