To upgrade the sports facilities and socio-cultural flairs inside the Amoranto Stadium along Roces Avenue, the Quezon City Government is improving and redeveloping the amenities of the so-called velodrome.

This, in order for the city to maintain its billing as the premier entertainment city in the country, City of Stars notwithstanding, such that various structures will still be constructed and enhanced to fit the description.

Mental health bill to be passed in Q1 of 2018

With the passage of the House on third (final) reading Monday (Nov. 20), the Comprehensive Mental Health Bill, HB 6452, would likely be passed on the first quarter of 2018.

This was the projection of Rep. Ron Salo, Kabayan Partylist and assistant majority leader, as he explained that the bill is a consolidation of 10 measures on mental health, including HB1040, which he filed. HB 6452 seeks to address the lack of a law to specifically address the mental health of Filipinos through a comprehensive program.

Simpler remittance procedures for OFWs pushed

Rep. Henry C. Ong (2nd District, Leyte), vice chair of the committee on banks and financial intermediaries, has urged the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to come up with easier and simpler procedures for remittances by overseas Filipino workers in the light of an 8.3 percent drop to $2.2 billion in cash last September. 

He also asked the Land Bank of the Philippines and other banks to prioritize OFWs in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Australia, where the biggest declines in remittances were recorded.

Doctor who saved woman’s arm in MRT accident feted

Medical intern, Charleanne “Charlie” Jandic, who saved the severed arm of a woman passenger who collapsed last week at the MRT3, was feted by the Kabayan Partylist and a bill filed before Congress on a national Emergency Medical Services System, HB4955, was named after her.
