Vacancies in COMELEC must soon be filled for smooth operation

Rep. Ron Salo, Kabayan party list and assistant majority leader, urged the immediate appointment of a replacement for resigned Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista to ensure smooth operations of the poll body.

The vacancy created by the resignation of Chairman Andres Bautista by the end of the year is not the only vacancy we must be concerned about, he said adding that terms of office of Commissioners Arthur Lim and Christian Robert Lim end on February 2, 2018, which is less than four months from now.

Bautista’s impeachment, a warning to Duterte’s enemies

By Rose de la Cruz

The haste with which the House of Representatives set into motion the process of removing Commission on Election Chairman Andres Bautista by rejecting the justice committee’s resolution junking the impeachment complaint sends a warning signal to all those sitting officials who will not toe the line of President Duterte.

EO 43 defended
A presidential order creating the Presidential Anti Corruption Commission to replace the now defunct Presidential Anti Graft Commission was defended as valid, as both bodies were created via presidential executive orders.

In a statement, Bernadette Herrery-Dy, chair of the House Committee on Public Information,  defended the issuance  of EO 43, series of 2017.

EO 43 basically copies the provisions of executive orders that created the now defunct PAGC, its composition, powers and functions.

In addition, EO 43 appropriately mentions and invokes the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, and…
