Phl-Netherlands sign MOU on sustainable development for Manila Bay

At the opening of the NEDA anniversary week, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia and Netherlands Ambassador Marion Derckx signed a memorandum of understanding on the sustainable development for Manila Bay as the Dutch have extensive knowledge and experience in implementing programs and projects that protect vulnerable coastal zones.

 

Under the MOU, the two governments will work together in formulating the Manila Bay Sustainable Development Master Plan (MBSDMP), which aims to provide a comprehensive framework for the sustainable development and management of the entire Manila Bay area.

Business sector pushes only for economic changes in the Constitution

Three very influential business groups have asked only for changes in the economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution as it saw no need to amend it to a federal form of government.

 

The proposals were contained in a position paper by the Financial Executives of the Philippines, Makati Business Club and the Management Association of the Philippines.

 

The business community said that: (1) amendments to the constitution should be focused only on certain economic provisions; (2) it would be more democratic for the two chambers of the Congress to vote separately…

LTFRB limits TNVS for MM, Cebu & Pampanga

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has limited the number of operating transport network vehicle service (TNVS)—or more known as Uber and Grab—from over 125,000 to 45,000 which would mean tighter supply of these preferred comfortable and convenient transportation for the riding public.

 

This is why newly-installed Kabayan Partylist Rep. Ciriaco Calalang, in a statement, asked the LTFRB to “rethink your Memorandum Circular 2018-003 as this would redound to the disadvantage of the riding public.”

Death of showbiz leader Spanky Manikan still rings in my head

Actor Spanky Manikan’s death recently wasn’t as feted as Fenando Poe, Jr.’s, Rudy Fernandez’ or even Ace Vegel’s but it was, in more ways than one, as memorable as theirs.

 

It wasn’t as publicized as theirs-- as if fame alone determines the quality of a lifetime—but in the hearts and minds of people he left behind, Spanky is forever etched in them.

 

Manikan is gone but his memories live on.

 

I wasn’t close to Spanky but he remains in my heart and mind as a significant actor of his generation.

One theft causes MIASCOR to lose aviation contract at NAIA

Just one qualified theft incident at the Clark International Airport caused MIASCOR, a company founded in 1974 first as an in-flight catering service to a full-service aviation provider, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

 

The incident involved six employees of the ground handing firm at Clark who looted the bag of OFW Jovenil dela Cruz, prompting President Duterte to personally apologize to the victim and calling a meeting of airport and transportation officials to resolve the theft last Thursday. The victim’s video of the looting went viral on Facebook.
