Many Filipinos rely heavily on public transport on their way to and from work. While we have more than enough options to clog the metropolitan streets such as buses, UV Express, taxis and ride-sharing platforms, going to the terminal or bus stop will still involve taking the omnipresent jeepney. 

What happens then, when jeepneys go on a massive, nationwide strike? Commuters will have to choose between staying at home and working from home if they have that option, or settle for slightly higher-priced transport such as taxis, UV Express or ride-sharing…

Lapeña rescinds Faeldon’s memo

AFTER several weeks of anxiety, millions of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can now heave a sigh of relief.

This after newly-minted Bureau of Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña ordered the suspension of the implementation of the controversial Customs Administrative Order (CAO) 05-2016 and Customs Memorandum Order (CMO) 04-2017 for six months until further notice.

Vacancies in COMELEC must soon be filled for smooth operation

 

Rep. Ron Salo, Kabayan party list and assistant majority leader, urged the immediate appointment of a replacement for resigned Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista to ensure smooth operations of the poll body.

The vacancy created by the resignation of Chairman Andres Bautista by the end of the year is not the only vacancy we must be concerned about, he said adding that terms of office of Commissioners Arthur Lim and Christian Robert Lim end on February 2, 2018, which is less than four months from now.

Bautista’s impeachment, a warning to Duterte’s enemies

The haste with which the House of Representatives set into motion the process of removing Commission on Election Chairman Andres Bautista by rejecting the justice committee’s resolution junking the impeachment complaint sends a warning signal to all those sitting officials who will not toe the line of President Duterte.

 

And the message that impeachment is an easy and handy tool for this administration to get rid of its enemies fast would definitely come across those whose removal is already in process namely Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
