Rep. Salvador Belaro Jr., 1-Ang Edukasyon Partylist, author of bills on healthy drinks and school nutrition, asked the public, particularly the students and sari sari store owners, not to believe in the campaigns of beverage companies against the beverage tax and citing the health benefits of softdrinks on nutrition.

Govt. spending up by 28% in October

Government spent a total of P226.9 billion in October, up by 28.2 percent, the highest growth recorded this year. Its cumulative January to October expenditure rose to P2.241 trillion, or an increase of 10 percent year on year.

 

The jump was traced to the current operating expenditure, which rose by 35.2 percent to P164.1 billion in October driven by the growth in maintenance and other operating expenditures, which grew by 111 percent reaching P40.4 billion.

CONSUMER GROUP WANTS HIGHER CIGAR TAXES

CONSUMER advocates have expressed frustration over the failure of the Senate to include in its approved version of Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act proposed measures seeking to impose higher taxes on cigarettes and other tobacco products.
Ray Junia, convenor of Institute for Institute for Consumer Research and Empowerment (ICORE) said they felt cheated as the senators left out proposals to raise taxes on cigarettes.

GSIS, PAGIBIG asked to waive penalties on loans of teachers

Public school teachers whose take home pays have been reduced to almost nothing because of the high penalties they pay to the lending institutions, like Government Service Insurance System and the PAGIBIG, have found a savior in Kabayan partylist Cong. Ron P. Salo.

 

Salo asked both institutions to waive the penalties and charges on teachers’ loans so that their take-home pays would not be severely eroded.
