Must we always be importing rice?

This question keeps cropping up because the country has vast tracts of agricultural lands—formerly devoted to palay—but which are now being converted to subdivision or multi-use towers thereby endangering future food. 

As of now, however, much farm lands remain suitable for planting hybrid rice varieties to ensure a steady and comfortable supply for our people and even for exports, in the future. 

Yet, several administrations have passed without giving much importance to hybrid rice production program, and would rather import the staple because, obviously there is much to be earned from buying it…

NEDA creates task force to address slow infra processes



Dismayed by the slow process for infrastructure projects, the National Economic and Development Authority, has created a task force that would address issues and bottlenecks in the process of approving infrastructure projects.


The NEDA said the inter-agency task force will set in motion policies and processes to speed up the approval and implementation of such infrastructure works.


In a keynote speech, NEDA Secretary Ernesto Pernia said the Project Facilitation, Monitoring and Innovation (PFMI) Task Force, composed of economic and major infrastructure agencies, functions as a body that will institute policies and processes to address issues in the project cycle…

No More Magicians In DPWH Projects

To stop an age-old practice of contractors and local governments conniving in declaring public works projects as on the pipeline when in reality are “ghost projects,” Secretary Mark Villar of the at the Department of Public Works and Highways issued the guidelines requiring full documentation and photographing of projects in various stages of implementation.
