Quotas on new cars’ registration backed

Rep. Harlin Neil Abayon of AANGAT Tayo Partylist and assistant minority leader is proposing the adoption by the Land Transportation Office of a quota system for the registration of new cars to ease road congestion and heavy traffic, which is commonly plaguing Metro Manila’s thoroughfares.

 

House Bill No. 7108, or the Motor Vehicle Registration and License Plate Quotas Act of 2018, which he authors, said regulating the number of new cars on the road, via quotas on the number of plates, are needed to be set.

Private placement agencies for Kuwait support suspension of OFW deployment

Private companies under the Philippine Association of Agencies for Kuwait (PHILAAK) have expressed support to the Duterte administration’s decision to suspend deployment of Filipinos to Kuwait and to help in looking for patriots in distress situations for their repatriation to the country.

Department of OFW mulled

Kabayan Partylist Rep. Ron Salo in an interview with CNN Philippines pushed for a consolidation of all bills creating a separate department dedicated to overseas Filipino workers (OFW)  and migrant workers welfare and development.

 

Salo said having all the various agencies dealing with migrant workers all in one department “under the baton of one conductor, the Secretary for Migrant Workers,” will improve the way government delivers its services and “address many of the issues and problems OFWs and other migrant Pinoy workers face.”

Phl trade grew beyond targets in 2017

The country’s total merchandise trade for full year 2017 increased by 9.9 percent as imports and exports posted growth rates higher than government estimates.

 

Imports and exports posted 10.2 percent and 9.5 percent growth rates, respectively, exceeding the Development Budget Coordinating Committee’s emerging estimates (as of December 2017) of 9.0 percent for imports and 8.0 percent for exports.

Govt. maps out measures to prop up manufacturing

The National Economic and Development Authority said it would aggressively pursue measures to ensure the recovery of manufacturing this year, which slackened for the past four months.

 

The NEDA was referring to the sector’s performance from the four-months declining production of manufacturing from September to December 2017.
