Financial education for public schools

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is partnering with the Banco de Oro Foundation and the Department of Education to promote financial (literacy) education programs in schools with a MOA signing slated for May 28 (Monday).


BSP Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr., Education Secretary Leonora Magtolis-Briones and BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito are signing the MOA to advance financial literacy concepts like savings, money management in public schools.


These videos, designed for learners and educators, are accompanied by teaching guides to further equip and support the DepEd in mainstreaming financial education…

Keep peso at the range of P49 to P50 per dollar

Rep. Frederick Siao, lone district of Iligan, is asking the economic managers, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Bankers Association of the Philippines to map out strategies to keep the peso from further falling against the dollar and if possible to keep it at the range of P49 to P50 per $1, from its current rate above P52.


He said that the only effective cushion of our country against high world oil prices is a strong peso.

Regions grew faster than NCR in 2017

All 17 regions of the country posted positive growths in 2017, with the highest double -digit growths posted by the Cordillera Autonomous Region (12.1 percent), Davao (10.9 percent) and Central Luzon (9.3 percent). But in terms of GDP contribution, NCR continued to have the largest share of the country’s Gross Domestic Product at 36.4 percent.


The National Economic and Development Authority said the massive infrastructure program—Build Build Build—will further subnational regional growth which means the country is on the right track with its development agenda.

HIV-AIDS claims 73 lives, 452 in advanced stages

The menace of HIV-AIDS has claimed 73 lives and 452 sufferers are in advanced stages of the disease, with great chances of not making it.


This is according to the Department of Health records, which Reps. Bernadette Herrera-Dy (Bagong Henerasyon) Ron Salo (Kabayan) partylists added is aggravated by the sharing of needles that is prevalent among illegal drug users in Central Visayas (where 49 drug injection users tested positive for HIV).

Will frats, sororities stop after UST suspends them

Officials of the University of Santo Tomas has ordered the suspension of all fraternities and sororities in the school system effective school year 2018-2019. But will this suspension really completely stop these societies from operating? They could easily go underground as had happened in the past (particularly during the Martial law years).
