Simpler remittance procedures for OFWs pushed

Rep. Henry C. Ong (2nd District, Leyte), vice chair of the committee on banks and financial intermediaries, has urged the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to come up with easier and simpler procedures for remittances by overseas Filipino workers in the light of an 8.3 percent drop to $2.2 billion in cash last September. 

He also asked the Land Bank of the Philippines and other banks to prioritize OFWs in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Australia, where the biggest declines in remittances were recorded.

Doctor who saved woman’s arm in MRT accident feted

Medical intern, Charleanne “Charlie” Jandic, who saved the severed arm of a woman passenger who collapsed last week at the MRT3, was feted by the Kabayan Partylist and a bill filed before Congress on a national Emergency Medical Services System, HB4955, was named after her.

Rep. Ron P. Salo explained that the Kabayan Bayani Award is a recognition and celebration of heroic deeds of any ordinary Filipinos. The recognition rites were held at Ayala Southpark, Alabang, Muntinlupa on Sunday afternoon.

Southeast Asia’s efforts at clean and renewable energy thwarted by rapid economic growth

Southeast Asia’s efforts at clean and renewable energy is being hampered by the varying rapid growth of its economies and the challenges of commoditization.

This was the prognosis of Capgemini’s World Energy Markets Observatory, which holds yearly studies and reviews of the energy situation in First World economies and is doing for the first time such a study in Southeast Asia.

It just published its 19th edition of the annual study that for the first time surpassed the boundaries of Europe and undertook a region-specific analysis of SE Asia’s energy landscape.
