Proposals raised to Implement ease of doing business law

With President Duterte having signed this morning the Ease of Doing Business law in Malacanang, proposals have been raised to ensure that the benefits of the law would trickle down to all businesses and to all municipalities of the country.


The proposals were made by Rep. Henry Ong, 2nd district of Leyte, vice chair of the committee on banks and financial intermediaries, that, among others, urges the authorities to entice more Filipinos to save their money in banks by creating new savings deposit products that give better interest and terms.

 ERC must be strong and independent

After the House committee on energy concluded its deliberation on a bill seeking to abolish the Energy Regulatory Commission, another bill which seeks to strengthen it is being pushed by Rep. Carlos Roman Uybarreta of 1-CARE partylist.


He said he believes that ERC should be a strong and independent regulatory body to oversee the erngy sector, as mandated by the EPIRA law.


As vice chair of the committee on energy, he said,  the ERC must be manned by experts.

Court convicts woman for stealing P12- million from her company through fund transfers

Through the diligence of the Anti- Money Laundering Council and the full cooperation of a chemical trader-distributor company, a woman was convicted by the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City for 55 counts of money laundering last month.


Found guilty beyond reasonable doubt was Annabella C. Ylagan, who defrauded her company (where she served as company secretary) a total of P12 million over four years and was asked to pay P9.86 million in actual damages plus a prison term of seven years per count, or way more than her entire lifetime.…

Financial education for public schools

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is partnering with the Banco de Oro Foundation and the Department of Education to promote financial (literacy) education programs in schools with a MOA signing slated for May 28 (Monday).


BSP Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr., Education Secretary Leonora Magtolis-Briones and BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito are signing the MOA to advance financial literacy concepts like savings, money management in public schools.

Keep peso at the range of P49 to P50 per dollar

Rep. Frederick Siao, lone district of Iligan, is asking the economic managers, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Bankers Association of the Philippines to map out strategies to keep the peso from further falling against the dollar and if possible to keep it at the range of P49 to P50 per $1, from its current rate above P52.
