AS PER admission of Senator Leila de Lima in a press conference over the weekend, alleged plans to besmirch her name appeared to have taken off shortly after the May 9 elections where some unnamed individuals supposedly tried to gain access to certain convicts, in hope of identifying her as their supposed “coddlers”, having purportedly contributed to her campaign kitty.

Lopez’s DENR appointment: ‘Elephant in the room?’

The unexpected appointment of environmentalist and anti-mining advocate Regina “Gina” Lopez as environment and natural resources secretary is greeted with mixed reactions. While several sectors, mostly environmental activists, welcomed the designation earlier reserved by President-elect Rodrigo Duterto to the Left, a number of individuals and organizations, especially those with tie-up to the mining industry, expressed apprehensions.

Grace to break LP’s heart …and ranks?

A SPLIT is inevitable not only in the ruling Liberal Party (LP) but even in the current administration’s coalition with other political parties the moment Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II is pitted against Sen. Grace Poe in the 2016 presidential race.

A number of LP members have already voiced out the possibility of some of them veering away from Roxas’ candidacy, given his poor showing in the pre-election surveys, and opting to be aligned with the candidate that has better chances of winning.
