A circus of lies.

That was how Presidential Counsel Atty. Savlador S. Panelo described Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s series of accusations on President Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged “hidden wealth” and “fake-news peddling.”

In a statement made last week, Atty. Panelo claimed that Trillanes’ most recent allegations that a certain Daniel “Spooky” Cruz fed President Duterte with false information that were “not only absurd but without logic as well.”

In his privilege speech on October 3, Trillanes tagged Cruz as the alleged informant who had supplied the President with information on the senator’s supposed overseas bank accounts, especially one with the Development Bank of Singapore (DBS).

“Sen. Trillanes is well aware that the President, as the Chief Executive and the Commander-in-Chief, has ready access to the vast array of information of the intelligence network of the Philippine government,” Atty. Panelo said in the statement.

“Thus, paying any supposed financial forensic expert for any such information is clearly against logic and common sense,” he said.

The presidential counsel also ridiculed Trillanes’ speech, which he said was as “empty as the hall he spoke in,” referring to the senator’s delivery of his speech in a nearly empty Senate session hall.

Senate eyes repeal of bank secrecy law

THE country’s existing banking laws are so strict that it’s proving to be an impediment for those investigating alleged suspicious accounts, such as in the case of the alleged undeclared 35 bank deposits of Comelec Chairman Andres Bautista in Luzon Development Bank (LDB).

Senate probers were made to realize this as they attempted to look into allegations hurled at Bautista by his estranged wife Patricia on the said accounts that reportedly totaled to P329 million, supposedly amassed by the poll executive within the last two years or since the time he assumed the position in the Comelec.
