Comelec control urged for narco-infested LGUs

By Francisco Benjamin Garcia

Rep. Bernadette Herrera-Dy, chairman of the committee on public information at the lower house has urged that narco-infested local government units be placed under the control of the Commission on Elections.

Herrera-Dy of the Bagong Henerasyon Partylist urged the Philippine National Police and the Department of Interior and Local Government to recommend to Comelec the LGUs to be placed under its control because of the pervasive public safety and security dangers including illegal drugs and “narco-politics.”

The COMELEC should then inform the public which barangays, towns, cities, or provinces will be…

IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STORM

WHILE the modernization of public utility vehicles has always been in the wish list of past administrations, thought of as a solution to the congestion and pollution problem in our roads, the same has eluded realization over the years.

President Rodrigo Duterte, the practical president with a strong political will, decides to make things happen. But already he has stirred a storm of protest from a group of operators identified with the Left.

In past days, these operators had launched a series of protests and strikes across the country.

They claim that the government’s PUV modernization plan was “too…

A circus of lies.

That was how Presidential Counsel Atty. Savlador S. Panelo described Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s series of accusations on President Rodrigo Duterte’s alleged “hidden wealth” and “fake-news peddling.”

In a statement made last week, Atty. Panelo claimed that Trillanes’ most recent allegations that a certain Daniel “Spooky” Cruz fed President Duterte with false information that were “not only absurd but without logic as well.”

In his privilege speech on October 3, Trillanes tagged Cruz as the alleged informant who had supplied the President with information on the senator’s supposed overseas bank accounts, especially one with the Development Bank of Singapore (DBS).

“Sen. Trillanes is well aware that the President, as the Chief Executive and the Commander-in-Chief, has ready access to the vast array of information of the intelligence network of the Philippine government,” Atty. Panelo said in the statement.

“Thus, paying any supposed financial forensic expert for any such information is clearly against logic and common sense,” he said.

The presidential counsel also ridiculed Trillanes’ speech, which he said was as “empty as the hall he spoke in,” referring to the senator’s delivery of his speech in a nearly empty Senate session hall.
