DA supports Tawi-Tawi bid for rice self-sufficiency

Furthering the thrusts of the current administration to solidify growth in the countryside especially to the agriculture sector, the Department of Agriculture (DA) on February 20 pledged to deliver before the next planting season five 100-horsepower large tractors and other farm implements to Tawi-Tawi.

Secretary Emmanuel Piñol said Tawi-Tawi, the country’s southernmost province and backdoor, is aiming to develop its own rice industry.

During a meeting with Tawi-Tawi Governor Rashidin Matba, Piñol was assured that the province “is aiming for rice self-sufficiency and targets to develop 6,000 hectares of new rice farmlands to feed a population of about 100,000.”…

LTO requires uniform temporary plates (Part one)

The Land Transportation Office will now require new vehicles, including motorcycles to use a standardized temporary plate. The cost should be shouldered by the automotive dealers.

This is contained in a memorandum issued by Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante last January 11 which is now in effect. All motor vehicles sold on or after February 15 should sport the same vehicle template.

The move was a virtual admission by LTO of its inability to provide the permanent plates, which it claims are yet to be delivered to them.
