Road Map To Digital Travel

By Francisco Benjamin Garcia

To remain competitive in this world of fast technological advances, airline and travel companies have to embrace digitalization.

The number one priority of the travel industry is to create a road map to implement digital innovations to move forward. Many airlines just have to be on the same page to cope with the demands of the business.

At the Travel Business Exchange Pilipinas to be held at Clark from November 16 to 17, tourism stakeholders will conduct business-to-business (B2B) meetings and seminars on how best to use the digital platform to be competitive.

The road map to digital travel is the lead discussion topic on the first day, to include checkpoints in technology change, combatting price competition, online or offline, and winning the booking through digital marketing.

Marketing Exercise

Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo, who endorsed TBEX Pilipinas 2017, meanwhile, said the international event hoped to generate more selling-and-buying movements within the industry, whether domestic, inbound, or international travel.

Teo recognized TBEX as a “worthy tourism promotional and marketing exercise and enjoins all stakeholders and players of the industry to participate.”

TBEX Pilipinas 2017 is organized by Afro Asian World Events, headed by Robert Joseph Lim with the Network of Independent Travel and Allied Services Philippines, Inc. (NITAS) as beneficiary. The first TBEX was held in 2013.

Joseph said travelers no longer physically buy their tickets or go to the agency or airlines to make reservations. “They can do it now with their smartphones and computers.”

Global industry players must optimize their use of the digital technology as their markets are getting more technologically mature, added Joseph.

The two-day event is exclusively for buyers and sellers in the tourism sector.

Expected to attend are 200 buyers from the Philippines, and 50 buyers from other countries. Also already registered are 20 other travel agencies and 15 corporations.

Reinforcing Commitment

“Clark has grown into a leading destination and as such we will promote sustainability and productivity in tourism through TBEX,” said Noel Manankil, head of Clark Development Corporation, the event co-organizer.

Other partners are the Tourism Promotions Board Philippines, Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise and Zone Authority, Philippine Airlines, Informatics, and Resorts World Manila.

Angel Ramos-Bognot, TBEX 2017 project director, said this annual event would reinforce its commitment to the further development of responsible tourism through regional tourism cooperation and business partnerships.

“The flavor of compassion and respect to the environment as a tangible elemental factor in tourism will benefit from this project through Bantay Kalikasan.” Bognot said.

The event’s official venue is Midori Hotel and Casino Clark. Delegates and guests are billeted at the Park Inn Clark by Radisson, Quest Hotel and Conference Center Clark, Royce Hotel and Casino Clark, and Widus Hotel and Casino Clark.
