PH now Russian tourists' preferred destination

TOURISM officials expect an upbeat in activities as Russian tourists now prefer the Philippines as their destination, thanks to the recently-signed bilateral tourism agreement, Joint Action Program of Tourism Cooperation (JAPTC).

JAPTC is predicted to bring in more visitors to the country, fostering “tourism exchange in education and training and exchange of information”.

Regular visits

Almost 50% of Russian clients regularly visit the country, says Muromskaya Svetlana, one of the managers of Russian travel company, VAND International, in a meeting with secretary of Philippine Tourism Wanda Teo in Moscow.

According to Muromskaya, who has visited the Philippines 11 times, Russian visitors come back to the Philippines “after a year or two”.

There were 9,152 arrivals from Russia during the period of January-February, posting an increase of 29.24 percent from the 2016 records, said Teo.

These regular visits mark Russia’s faith in the Philippines “to resolve peace and order issues” and highlight their appreciation for the Filipinos’ hospitality.

Positive Outlook

Teo exhibits a positive outlook and great confidence for the tourism sector of the country as clients continue to show interest in the Philippines.

“The interest is there, as evidenced by international events being held in the Philippines,” Teo said, citing Miss Universe pageant held at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 30 of this year and the 2017 Cobra Ironman 70.3 triathlon, to be held in Mactan, Cebu City this August.
