Mystery of Derbyshire’s ‘ghost’ plane

MORE reports of a ghost plane being sighted in Derbyshire have emerged after an eyewitness claimed she saw a large, silent aircraft flying towards her, before it disappeared completely.

There have consistently been reports of ghost planes in Derbyshire, with people often identifying the plane as a Douglas Dakota - once flown by the RAF.

And as the reports continue to show chilling similarities, a news documentary was obtained from the 1990s which claims a Dakota did crash in the area some 70 years ago.

Pam Orridge said the news of the new sightings prompted her to remember a sighting…

Mysterious earthworks found in Amazon

THE Amazonian rainforest was transformed over two thousand years ago by ancient people who built hundreds of large, mysterious earthworks.

Findings by Brazilian and UK experts provide new evidence for how indigenous people lived in the Amazon before European people arrived in the region.

The ditched enclosures, in Acre state in the western Brazilian Amazon, were concealed for centuries by trees. Modern deforestation has allowed the discovery of more than 450 of these large geometrical geoglyphs.

The function of these mysterious sites is still little understood - they are unlikely to be villages, since archaeologists recover very few artifacts during…

Microbes Can Survive On Mars

EVEN though the question of human survival on Mars remains uncertain, scientists have revealed that methanogens - group of microorganisms - are capable of surviving tough conditions like those on Mars, albeit in the lab.

According to a new study, conducted by astrobiologists at the University of Arkansas, despite harsh environmental conditions microbes may be able to survive on Mars.

The researchers undertook a year-long experiment to come to this conclusion. This news has awakened a whole new possibility of having life on the Red Planet.

Basically, methanogens - that cultivate in marshes and guts of cattle - produce…

Scientists find 'oldest human ancestor'

RESEARCHERS have discovered what is believed to be the earliest known ancestor of humans - along with a vast range of other species.

They say that fossilized traces of the 540-million-year-old creature are "exquisitely well preserved".

The microscopic sea animal is the earliest known step on the evolutionary path that led to fish and - eventually - to humans.

Details of the discovery from central China appear in Nature journal.

The research team says that Saccorhytus is the most primitive example of a category of animals called "deuterostomes" which are common ancestors of a broad range of species, including vertebrates…

Gigantic ‘ice towers’ discovered in Pluto

IT TOOK NASA's New Horizons space probe almost a decade to trek its way across the solar system for 2015's historic Pluto flyby – and when it got there, it discovered stunning towers of ice reaching 500 meters into the sky.

This is the first time this phenomenon has been found anywhere in the solar system other than on Earth, and now, a new analysis of those ridges has identified the atmospheric process that caused them to form.

The distinctive bladed terrain you can see in the image above makes up part of Pluto's Tartarus Dorsa region, which New…
