Koko: Only Federalists can run under PDP-Laban

SENATE President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, the President of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), has declared that only those who support Federalism can be entertained as candidates under its banner in the coming 2019 elections.

The ruling party, with more than 300,000 members across the country, has Federalism as one of its guiding principles.

“You cannot be a member of PDP-Laban, much less a candidate of the party, and not support one of its core tenets”, said Pimentel.

In addition, Pimentel said that the prospective candidates must support the programs of the party chairman, President Rodrigo Duterte, until…

17,900 illegal settlers get condo units as reward

By Fernan J. Angeles

IT pays to be an illegal settler. Especially, if you chose to occupy a government-owned property!

In what appears to be an ironic approach in dealing with the problem on the sprawling squatter colonies in Metro Manila, the government is bent on rewarding some 17,900 families with condominium units for squatting on a government property in Quezon City.

Compensation for informal settlers

At the House committee hearing on Metro Manila developments, agency officials from various government offices were debating as to how the government should ‘compensate’ families that would be affected by the construction…

Mandatory drug testing for barangay candidates urged

By Rose de la Cruz

To ensure that no drug addict or dependent, a mandatory testing must be undertaken and this must be done through a law requiring such testing.

This was the prescription of Rep. Carlos Roman Uybarreta, 1-CARE partylist representative, who noted that the mandatory drug testing is justifiable a reason to again postpone the barangay and SK elections, but that there is still time to undertake such for the May 2019 elections, but  not for this year.

He said suggestions to come up with a presidential executive order for such mandatory testing for…
