Phl holds world’s largest art lesson

By Rose de la Cruz

The record for the world's largest art lesson was successfully broken by the Philippines when 16,692-strong students converged to attend an art class in Quezon City.
The class was held at the historic Quezon Memorial Circle and was officially monitored and recognized by the Guinness World Records. The students converged in the morning and followed a lesson plan approved by Guinness and taught by professional educator Sheila Meneses.
The lesson highlight was the drawing of a maskara used during the famous Maskara Festival annually held in Bacolod. At the end of the lesson, the students then held in unison the artworks they have done to signal that the record was broken. The number of participants was announced by the independent auditor, PWC Philippines which was pre-approved by Guinness World Records to validate the attempt.
The event, officially called "PINASayang Sining" was organized by Expressions Stationery Shop in celebration of its 30th anniversary in support of the National Arts Month of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).
Expressions an affiliate of Sterling Paper Group, is one of the leading school and office supplies chain in the country with over 100 branches nationwide. A great assortment of arts and crafts and other gift items can be found at Expressions. The Department of Education (DEP-ED) Quezon City Division and Quezon City Government fully supported the event.
It was witnessed by top Quezon City officials led by Mayor Herbert Bautista, City Administrator Aldrin Cuna, Expressions and DEP-ED Division Office officials.
"Our aim in conducting this event is to promote learning and creativity among our customers, especially students and art enthusiasts. Our 30th anniversary's theme is to encourage positive self-expression and help uplift the art scene in the country. We are very proud to break the previous record held by India at 14,135 students back in 2014" says Joseph Lim, President of Expressions Stationery Shop.
Aside from Lim, the Expressions group was led by Henry Lim , Chairman of Sterling Paper Group of Companies  and Jason Lim, General Manager of Expressions Stationery Shop Inc. Ferdinand P. Isleta represented NCCA and Dr. Elizabeth Quezada who represented the DEP-ED Division Office.
Expressions started as a concessionaire in one of the community malls back in 1984 and started its first store in 1988 in Quezon City. It is set to expand to 500 stores by 2022.
Top arts and crafts brands such as Pentel, Orions, Avanti, Faber Castle, Deli, and Dong-A also supported the event.
