Switzerland celebrates 725th National Day

FOR Swiss Ambassador Andrea Reichlin, the many years of their country’s existence is a good reason to celebrate this year with their Filipino partners and the international community.

Recently, the Swiss Embassy celebrated its country’s 725th National Day in Makati City by highlighting its growing bilateral trade with the rest of the world.

“For a landlocked country with no significant natural resources, it is easy to understand why the Swiss economy would be highly dependent on international trade in goods and services,” she said.

Asean countries eye expanded trade relations

THE Philippines and other ASEAN member states are looking forward to the expansion of the trade relationship outside existing ties, said Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez.

ASEAN is a 10-member economic bloc composed of Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

“We already enjoy free trade so we discussed other supporting activities. (We discussed) removing non-tariff barriers and non-tariff measures. It is not quantified but it’s more of a commitment to further improve trade facilitation within ASEAN,” he added.
