Polish firm taps PHL for $2-million plant

CITING the growing infrastructure sector and its strategic location in the Asean region, Poland-based Pietrucha Group opted to choose the Philippines over neighbor Malaysia where it will open a $2-million production plant, marking its first green field investment in the country.

The plant would serve as a pilot project to manufacture vinyl sheet piling -- an advanced alternative to the traditional materials such as steel, concrete or wood.

Pietrucha Manufacturing Philippines, Inc. (PMPI), a joint venture with infrastructure engineering company Design Science, Inc., is located in the Freeport Area of Bataan.

British envoy foresees PHL 10% GDP growth

DESPITE concerns by some foreign investors on President Rodrigo Duterte’s reputation for unpredictability, a European envoy is confident the country could register 10-percent growth this year.

British Ambassador to the Philippines Asif Ahmad said that a 10-percent gross domestic product (GDP) growth is “genuinely possible here, if all the right things happen, I see the economic growth here actually in double digits”.

EU envoy lauds Duterte’s enthusiasm

EUROPEAN Union (EU) Ambassador Franz Jessen has lauded President Rodrigo Duterte administration for his enthusiasm and tireless efforts to bring about concrete and sustainable changes in the country as he looks for deeper cooperation between EU and the Philippines.

“One area that looks particularly promising for deeper cooperation is for the EU to assist in the implementation of a possible peace agreement between the government and the various groups in Mindanao,” he said.

Saudi King helps displaced OFWs

ALL is not lost for displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has vowed to assist them find new jobs.

SOME 69 Filipino students will fly to Japan as part of the latest batch of scholars who were selected by the Japanese Embassy after a series of written examinations and interviews for them to study in the said country.
