By Ricky Calderon

Newbie director Julius Alfonso was, as expected, nervous when he attended the announcement presscon of the final four entries to the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival last Friday at Club Filipino.

The fate of his directorial debut “Deadma Walking” from T-Rex Entertainment Productions was hanging in a balance.

The film was first entered as an entry via script submission last June but failed to gain the nod. But producer Rex Tiri and Julius wouldn’t be denied.

Despite the initial setback, they were bent on joining the MMFF 2017 as a finished film.

Jake Zyrus’ mom fears for their lives
Jake Zyrus: No sign of truce yet

Because of publicity, Jake Zyrus’ (formerly Charice) mom Raquel Pempengco fears for her life.

This stems from a series of write-ups on her family where their whereabouts are mentioned. “’Yan na nga ba ang sinasabi ko. Mahirap na (That’s what I mean. It’s dangerous),” warns Raquel.

Jake’s mom and younger brother Coy have been living in relative peace in a…

Wynwyn Marquez’s unique heritage wins her Reina Hispano Americana 2017

While her girlfriend was vying for the coveted title of Reina Hispano Americana 2017 in Bolivia recently sans satellite feed, Mark Herras was silently praying back home for Wynwyn Marquez’s victory.

Never mind the bashers and non-believers, among—of all people—Filipinos.

As long as Wynwyn—officially known as Teresita Marquez in the pageant—was confident and hardworking there’s no way she couldn’t bring home the bacon.

As long as her family, friends and Mark were behind her, it was more than winning. Brother Yoej and aunt Ailyn were the only ones around during her toughest fight. She thanked them including the country’s beauty queens.…
