Derrick, Barbie’s knight in shining armor; a shoulder to cry on

By Ricky Calderon

Barbie Forteza is one of the best actresses at the Kapuso network and if we were GMA, we’d give her more projects that would make her shine as an actress.

It’s a good thing Barbie’s acting mettle was noticed by BG Films International of Ms. Baby F. Go which gave her Louie Ignacio’s “Laut” for which she won the Best Actress award at the 36th Fantasporto International Film Festival two years ago.

Barbie reunites with BG Productions and Direk Louie in the upcoming movie “Almost a Love Story” which was shot in Italy. Co-produced with GMA Films and Salento Cinema of Italy, the movie pairs her with Derrick Monasterio.

They became a screen tandem in several GMA programs and Derrick even courted her.

“We had many bonding moments and in the course of time, we both became close friends. We were still young when he first courted me so it didn’t prosper. He courted me a second time and we realized it would be best to become friends. I’ve gone through a lot in my life and Derrick is still there. I feel that it’s a good decision that we became best friends.”

What did Barbie discover about Derrick when they were shooting in Italy?

“He has matured through the years. He is always concerned about me kung nilalamig ba ako kasi it was winter in Italy. He was always there to keep me warm,” said Barbie with a chuckle.

What did Derrick discover about Barbie? “Ang sarap niyang alagaan. Kasi, she would rely on you on certain instances. So I became her knight in shining armor and shoulder to cry one while we were in Italy. I also would like to thank BG Productions for giving me this project with Barbie,” he said.

For his part, Direk Louie said he had a pleasant time working with Barbie. “She is not a star she is an actress and a very good one at that. And she is no diva on the set. I can say the same for Derrick. He is a revelation in this movie,” the director said.
