Exclusive! Jackie Chan to shoot film (again) in PH

Jackie Chan: A return to PH

After the world renowned action superstar Steven Seagal’s widely publicized location shoots of a television adventure series in the Philippines late last year, it’s Chinese action hero Jackie Chan’s turn to backdrop the country in his caper.
According to Filipino filmmaker and member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Joey Romero, Jackie is set to plane in to the Philippines in June to start up a set in Manila.
“Manggagaling siya sa Beijing sa China kung saan sila ay nagsu-shooting na. Then, he will be in full swing in Manila (He will be coming from Beijing in China where they’re already shooting),” informed Joey at the prelude of feminist writer Marra PL Lanot’s book launch at the Lugawan Republic in Tomas Morato early last week.

Joey Romero: Back to creative work

Romero, a seasoned movie director, will be part of the production’s creative team which would assist the local shoots of Chan.
Before this project, he has several international film productions under his belt including Oliver Stone’s “Born on the Fourth of July” which topbilled Tom Cruise. Joey was the production manager in the Philippines during the shoot of the critically acclaimed masterpiece.
“I am very excited to work again with Jackie Chan,” Joey beamed.
It would be another nice working experience with Jackie whom Romero said had already shot a film in the country in the 1990s. “Hindi lang natapos (Sadly, it wasn’t finished),” he recalled.
Chan, Romero volunteered, was a very professional and compassionate film artist and a responsible producer was well. “The first time he shot here, he was sorry it didn’t push through but we were paid,” Joey happily recounted.
“We weren’t only paid in dollars we were also paid twice as much because he said we were messed up. He was very apologetic,” he added.
Jackie, Romero reminisced, at the time had to go to Hollywood to start a new project for an international film company he decided to hold back and to defer the Philippine shot.
It wasn’t clear, though, if his upcoming Chinese production would be a continuation of the 90s unfinished film project.
Many Filipino film artisans, Joey quipped, would be utilized in the months-long shoots.

Alden Richards: Andrea’s next leading lady
Andrea Torres: Dumaguete-inspired film

Directing Alden, Andrea and Meg; Reviving MTRCB TV show

Meanwhile, Joey is set to revive his film directing career with a new project for BG Productions which would star among others, Alden Richards, Andrea Torres and Meg Imperial.
“Dennis Evangelista of BG is getting the services of Alden, Andrea and Meg to star in a story which made Dumaguete City as the backdrop,” said Joey.

Meg Imperial: A ghoulWhile Richards and Torres play ordinary persons, Imperial portrays a ghost in the film.

Romero has something in common with BG’s big boss Baby Go that makes them click together—they’re both from Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.
He is also ready to go on directing TV anew when “MTRCB: Uncut” returns to the tube with new hosts fellow MTRCB members Atty. Gaby Concepcion and Boggart who replaced Jackie Aquino and Bobby Andrews, both erstwhile censors’ board members during the past administration.
