Conditional Cash Transfer Program fate hangs

CRITICS of conditional cash transfer program that was staunchly espoused by former Social Welfare Secretary Dinky Soliman, would now have some reasons to smile after the current administration dropped hints that it might eventually scrap the initiative.

In a recent interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said her department may seek a smaller budget in the coming years as they were studying whether or not to continue the previous administration’s conditional cash transfer program.

Taguiwalo categorically stated the program was not an anti-poverty measure but a mere “stop-gap” solution.

“Win-win solution” to Endo hit as farce

A PROGRESSIVE labor group has described as a big farce and unacceptable the so-called “win-win solution” offered by Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez during a recent consultation meeting among government officials and industry representatives.

The group, Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO) was reacting to the statement of the secretary who suggested that the way to address the problem of end of contract (endo) is through outsourcing.

Lopez explained that a company taps a service provider or an agency for the supply of workers on a project basis. The service provider would hire the workers as regular employees.

The rabbit is smart meters, Meralco, the magician, is taking from the hat to tell over 3.3 million power consumers in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, it will install soon.

The smart meter will cost US$100.00 or P4,750.00 each and will be installed in over 3.3 million consumers’ homes, half of Meralco’s franchise area. This will earn Meralco a total of P15.6-Billion.

Govt eyes removing VAT exemption for elderly

THIS is one government move that would surely earn the ire of the public especially those in the twilight of their lives.
