Salivating on Tetangco’s Post

PUBLIC-Private Partnership (PPP) is being sold to us as panacea to funding problems on infrastructure. If this is true is now being debated in advanced countries after decades of experience by governments on this scheme.

PPP, as known here in the country is a mechanism to invite private groups in the development of infra projects. This is aggresively being pushed by the government to catch up with identified defficiencies in our infrastructure. Lack of basic infrastructure has always been cited as reason investors are not coming in to put up factories and plants that create jobs and earn revenues.…

SM dared to reveal true status of employees

MILITANT YOUTH activists Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan (SPARK) has joined groups calling for the abolition of all forms of contractual labor and the penalization of its most adherent violators as it challenged retail giant SM Supermalls to disclose the true status of their corporate organization especially their workforce.

In a recent interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer, DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said her department may seek a smaller budget in the coming years as they were studying whether or not to continue the previous administration’s conditional cash transfer program.

Taguiwalo categorically stated the program was not an anti-poverty measure but a mere “stop-gap” solution.

“Win-win solution” to Endo hit as farce

A PROGRESSIVE labor group has described as a big farce and unacceptable the so-called “win-win solution” offered by Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez during a recent consultation meeting among government officials and industry representatives.

The group, Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa (SENTRO) was reacting to the statement of the secretary who suggested that the way to address the problem of end of contract (endo) is through outsourcing.

Lopez explained that a company taps a service provider or an agency for the supply of workers on a project basis. The service provider would hire the workers as regular employees.

Josua…
