Cops as environment protectors pushed

WITH June celebrated annually as the Philippine Environment Month, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) has proposed that more funds be dedicated to tighter law enforcement and stronger research on forest management.

NEDA Assistant Secretary for Regional Development Mercedita Sombilla said stakeholders in private and public sectors should implement strategies to rehabilitate degraded natural resources and to protect the fragile ecosystem.

NEDA officials and employees undertook planting of 500 guyabano and guava seedlings in Rizal, Laguna. This year’s theme is “Go Wild for Life, Combat Biodiversity Loss.”

Public urged to protect environment

WITH the recent ratification of the Paris agreement on climate change, Senator Loren Legarda and fellow environment advocates have called on the public to cooperate and encourage the Filipinos to obey environmental laws.

The Senate chair committee on climate change has asked the public to love the environment and enjoy the benefits of having environmental security.

“All our environmental laws are in place. All we need is compliance,” she said.

US pullout from Paris Pact alarms Loren

DESCRIBING the decision of United States President Donald Trump to back out of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change as a ‘grave mistake’, Sen. Loren Legarda said the move would send a dangerous message not just to the US but also to the whole world.

"By this withdrawal, the United States has turned its back on the future. It puts a spotlight on a belligerent leadership that refuses to heed the voices of people, including his own, who are gravely threatened by the perils of climate change and global warming," Legarda, chair of the Senate Committee on Climate Change said.…

Legarda pushes for green climate dialogue

THERE is a strong need to ensure that the Philippines prioritizes the right climate change mitigation programs and involves private sector and non-profit organizations, according to Senator Loren Legarda.

This is the reason Legarda has decided to convene a Green Climate Fund Dialogue that would gather government agencies and private organizations to discuss what programs they should pursue to ensure that the Philippines adapts to the effects of climate change.
