Legarda pushes for green climate dialogue

THERE is a strong need to ensure that the Philippines prioritizes the right climate change mitigation programs and involves private sector and non-profit organizations, according to Senator Loren Legarda.

This is the reason Legarda has decided to convene a Green Climate Fund Dialogue that would gather government agencies and private organizations to discuss what programs they should pursue to ensure that the Philippines adapts to the effects of climate change. 

"We must heighten the level of awareness among our national government agencies and the domestic private sector on the GCF,” the senator announced at the recent high level segment…

Climate watchdogs want use of coal stopped

BE an example and drop the Philippines’ reliance on coal.

This was the dare of the Philippine Movement for Climate Justice (PMCJ) and other groups to President Rodrigo Duterte as they urged him to observe provisions indicated at the recently-signed Paris Agreement.

The environmental groups wanted President Duterte to stay true to the agreement by eliminating the Philippines’ dependence on coal as an energy source.

Yolanda victims call for freedom from fossil fuels

“UNITE against climate change and never let anything like Yolanda happen again.”

This was the message of Leyte residents as they converged at the iconic San Juanico Bridge recently where they unfurled a giant banner bearing the words “#BreakFree from fossil fuels”.

The unfurling of the banner was part of the week-long activity in the Leyte leg of Break Free 2017 as a team of cyclists and a team of rowers watched below.

Legarda: Reduce Disaster Risks

 

SENATOR Loren Legarda has stressed the importance of dealing with climate change as a way to build disaster resilience noting that the phenomenon has been causing extreme weather events, thus, it is of paramount importance for the country to adopt disaster risk reduction measures.

The lady lawmaker made the call on the second anniversary of the adoption of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction recently.
