Solons caution DOF on excise tax hike

SOME lawmakers are convinced that the plan of the Department of Finance to hike excise tax on fuel products will hit consumers hardest prompting them to express their reservations on the proposal.

Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay and Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Carlos Zarate said the proposal would certainly raise the excise tax for fuel products to up to P10 per liter which they said would affect the poor the severely.

BIR loses case vs gaming outfit in SC

INTEGRATED gaming resort developer Bloomberry Resorts Corp.has succeeded in clearing Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) out of its way after the Supreme Court on in its favor over the latter’s bid to subject casinos to the regular 30 percent corporate income tax.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Bloomberry said the SC had granted the certiorari petition of its unit Bloomberry Resorts & Hotels Inc. DTI orders Telcos to remove expiry dates on prepaid cards

APPARENTLY suddenly coming to its senses, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has said that it will soon direct telecommunications companies to remove the unlawful expiry periods on their cellular-phone prepaid load cards.

Trade Secretary Ramon M. Lopez said it is about time that telecommunications companies return to the consumers what they rightfully deserve.
