What is the TPP?

TRANS-Pacific Partnership or TPP has lost all momentum in the USA. 

Drafted in 2015 and signed in February 2016, it was to allow the reduction of tariffs on trade goods from the Americas to much of ASEAN.  

It excluded China.  Since the USA would be over 65% of the collective GDP, the United States is the anchor country of the agreement.  

This would allow goods to easily move from Chile, Peru, Mexico, USA, Canada, ANZ, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Japan.

Net foreign investments jump 32%

MORE foreign-led job generating investments entered the country during the second month of the Duterte administration on the back of sustained investor confidence.

According to data released by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows reached $711 million in August, 32 percent higher than $539 million recorded in the same month last year.

The net inflows in August surpassed July’s $503 million, June’s $238 million and May’s $364 million. The figure however,was lower than the $2.244 billion in April.

BOI bats support for SMEs

The Philippine Board of Investments is currently working on the 2017 investments priorities plan geared towards providing fiscal support to inclusive business projects that benefit the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). 

Trade and Industry Secretary and BOI Chairman Ramon Lopez said the target date of submission is considered as milestone undertaking for the agency, with the list already with President Rodrigo Duterte for approval before the end of the year.

PH leads in global financial inclusion

FOR having performed consistently well across all indicators the   Philippines is once again named as one of the global leaders in financial inclusion.

In its 2016 report, the Global Microscope on the Enabling Environment for Financial Inclusion has ranked the Philippines third in the world, tied with India, in terms in terms of having conducive environments for financial inclusion.

The Philippines and India ranked highest among 10 Asian countries. Colombia and Peru tied for the number one spot.
