Duterte renews war vs profiteers

REALIZING that the only way to achieve genuine progress is to liberate the people from the clutches of greedy profiteers who resort to monopoly and duopoly in bleeding the consumers dry, President Rodrigo Duterte has announced that he would open power and communication industries to other global players.

President Duterte stressed that giving foreign investors the opportunity to invest in the Philippines on the said sectors is his way to “re-route the entire red tape.”

“The country’s deliverance would only be achieved if it is removed from the clutches of the few people who hold the power and money”…

Weaker peso is good for mineral exports

WITH the Philippine peso continuing its dip in the foreign exchange market, it would be good for export industries like mining to be grabbing this opportunity to earn more and contribute more to the gross domestic product (GDP).

But many companies are still not operating because their audits are ongoing and the Duterte administration is proceeding cautiously in granting permits to operate to stave off environmental deterioration from over extraction.

Hacienda Luisita estate to be given away to beneficiaries

AGRARIAN Reform Secretary Rafael “Paeng” Mariano is reportedly preparing all the necessary documents as he gears to implement the 2012 Supreme Court (SC) ruling that ordered the Cojuangco clan to distribute the controversial 4,335-hectare Hacienda Luisita, along with a P1.3-billion payout to 6,212 farmer beneficiaries.

Should Mariano succeeds in implementing the order, it would have been 12 years after the infamous Hacienda Luisita Massacre that claimed seven people along with dozens injured and 112 arrested when farmers on strike were brutally dispersed in the hacienda on November 16, 2004.

Countless others have died over the years as the…

DoST lures back foreign-based Pinoy scientists

TO ENSURE that Filipino scientists working or studying abroad will return bringing back their inventions and skills, the Department of Science and Technology is proposing a law that would institutionalize the Balik Scientist program.

The proposal seeks an annual undertaking of the department to recognize their achievements so that instead of looking for foreign experts to help us with our concerns, we can readily avail of their skills and expertise.

Science Secretary Fortunato de la Pena said the Philippines needs their expertise, particularly in remote areas, where their studies or inventions can benefit more people, which currently benefit only…

Will Tetangco stay in BSP?

NOTWITHSTANDING the fact that President Rodrigo Duterte has earlier censured the Anti-Money Laundering Council , reports have surfaced that Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Amando Tetangco would be asked by the incumbent government to stay for a third consecutive term.

To further convince Tetangco, the government reportedly is even willing to amend the laws that govern BSP governor’s tenure just to accommodate him.

This development has perplexed many political and business observers since Tetangco aside from being BSP head is also the chairman of the Anti-Money Laundering Council, an agency that Duterte had criticized for allegedly not cooperating with…
