Rice agency backs Villar on ‘unli’ rice call

AFTER receiving a lot of criticisms when she asked some restaurants to stop the practice of serving ‘unlimited’ rice to conserve the staple and save Filipinos from some ailments, Senator Cynthia Villar has found an ally in Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) after it issued an advisory advising the public to be responsible with their consumption of the product.

PhilRice , an attached agency of the Department Agriculture is responsible in ensuring that the country will have enough supply of the staple. It is highly also acclaimed for its innovative researches that resulted in various high yielding varieties.

P35.6M Apayao farm to market road project

WITH the current administration’s drive to make better the economic condition of farmers and their communities, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has recently turned over the completed P35.6 million farm- to- market road project with a bridge component to Flora town in Apayao province.

The project will help farmers from different barangays in Flora to deliver their goods safer and faster to the market and other consumers.

Agrarian Secretary Rafael Mariano highlighted the importance of roads in driving economic growth especially in rural areas.

TO IMPORT OR NOT TO IMPORT RICE

THERE is now a great debate on whether to import or not to import for at least the 30 days buffer stocks needed by National Food Authority (NFA) which is mandated to insure food security.

Piñol: Be ready for another possible El Niño

Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol has ordered his agency to be ready and set precautionary measures in case another lengthy dry spell will hit the country this year.

Piñol said that DA will start their plans on protecting the Filipino farmers and fishermen from the ill-effects of the possible El Niño phenomenon in the latter part of the year.

This happened after the Australian Weather Bureau made a forecast that the Pacific Ocean could warm up again, projecting a long dry spell that could start as early as the end of 2017 or early 2018.

AGRI EASY ACCESS CREDIT PROPOSED

WORKERS from the agriculture and fisheries sectors may soon reap and enjoy the fruits of their work if not literally at least figuratively.
