Legarda supports 5-yr nat’l fishery industry roadmap

Senator Loren Legarda has expressed her full support to the newly-launched five-year Comprehensive National Fisheries Industry Development Plan (2016-2020), which aims to uplift the country’s fisheries sector through innovative and sustainable practices.

The fishery industry roadmap will be pursued by the Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), in partnership other concerned agencies, fisherfolk groups and fishing industry stakeholders, including local government units.

To attain the plan’s goals, Legarda said the convergence among government agencies is crucial. “The Department of Agriculture and BFAR must work with other agencies that have coastal management programs,” she noted.…

PDEA arrests 41% more drug offenders in 2015

The government is winning its war against foreigners and Filipinos engaged in illegal drug activities.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) has reported a 40.7% increase of arrested drug offenders in 2015 compared to 2014.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr., said the from January to December 2015, they have successfully conducted 24,462 anti-drug operations that led to the arrest of 19,406 drug personalities. The operations were conducted in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Bureau of Customs (BoC) and other law enforcement agencies (OLEAs).

P-Noy signs law banning political dynasties in SK

President Aquino has signed into law Republic Act No. 10742 that reforms and bans political dynasties in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).

Under RA 10742, SK officials must not be related within the second civil degree of consanguinity or affinity to any incumbent elected national official or any elected regional, provincial, city, municipal or barangay official in the locality, where he or she is seeking election.

Dinagat Islands Rep. Kaka Bag-ao said that this is the first and only law that has an anti-political dynasty provision – to prevent political dynasties from monopolizing power and resources in communities.

Legarda Calls for E-NIPAS Bill Passage in House

Senator Loren Legarda has renewed her call for the immediate passage of the proposed Expanded National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 2015 (ENIPAS), which will strengthen conservation of close to a hundred protected areas in the country.

The Senate has approved the bill on third and final reading in July 2015 but the counterpart measure in the House of Representatives is yet to be passed.

Hospital for QC senior citizens proposed

Senior citizens currently enjoy health benefits and privileges mandated by law, through the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. Some of these benefits include a 20% discount on medicines, professional fees, and all other health services at government and private hospitals.

However, said benefits are not yet enough, said Quezon City 5th District Representative Alfredo Vargas III.

What is needed, Vargas said, is a specialized health facility primarily serving the health needs of senior citizens, especially in his district, covering Novaliches.
