A lending facility for inventors

By Rose de la Cruz

The usual reason why Filipino inventors always leave the country and pursue their inventions elsewhere for commercialization is that financial support has always been denied them.

Not anymore now with the lending program I-TECH or Innovation and Technology Lending Program already launched late September between Land Bank of the Philippines and the Technology Application and Promotions Institute of the Department of Science and Technology.

The program is meant to support the commercial production of patented Filipino inventions through a special financing window.

The Chemicals and Energy, and Environment and Biotechnology divisions of Industrial Technology Development Inc. joined over 15 countries in the recent 12th International Exhibition and Conference on Directions for Energy, Power, and Electricity or Powertrends 2017 held last September at the SMX Convention Center in Manila, Philippines.

Themed as “Regional Energy Security, Sustainability, and Resilience,” ITDI’s participation was historic as it co-celebrated the 50th year of the founding of ASEAN. It featured technologies on CO2 capture system for combustion systems, small-scale composter, and biogas digester, among others.

With the Philippines as chair of the 50th ASEAN celebration, the ASEAN Energy Business Forum was also held in conjunction with Powertrends 2017.

The three day-activity was opened by the Ministers of Energy of the ASEAN member countries, accompanied by their senior energy officials who went on to share market information, knowledge, and the “golden” opportunity for networking with the ASEAN energy family.

A biennial event since 1995, the Powertrends Series went annual beginning 2016. It aims to introduce major international energy players to the Philippine market and the relevant government agencies and their private counterparts. (AMGuevarra-- ITDI)
