Did A Sea Creature Start the Vietnam War?

Was the Vietnam War, one of the most controversial military engagements taken by the United States in the 20th century, actually started by “glowing sea creatures”?

The question has haunted biologist Todd Newberry of the University of California-Santa Cruz ever since he had a chance conversation in 1966 with a Navy sonar engineer who had participated in what was considered as the spark of the Vietnam War – the Gulf of Tonkin incident in August 4, 1964.

Two days earlier, the USS Maddox and the USS Turner Joy, which had been conducting covert raids against radar installations in the Gulf of…

‘Bizarre’ sea creatures found in Australian abyss

A ‘faceless’ deep-sea fish not seen for nearly a century, a giant anemone-eating sea-spider, and a “spectacular” bioluminescent sea stars.

These are just some of the ‘bizarre’ creatures recently discovered in the waters off Australia’s east coast by scientists from Museums Victoria and the Australian government’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

According to Filipino folklore, the “nuno sa punso” refers to spirits of old persons who live under the ground. The “nuno” (Tagalog term for old man) is oft-described to be an old man…
