Automating Barangay, SK 2018 Polls Pushed

Rep. Frederick W. Siao, lone district Iligan City, is pushing for the use of vote counting machines in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, which had just been postponed, for the third time. Barangay polls is set to May 2018.

President Duterte had just ordered the postponement of barangay and SK elections to ensure that there would be adequate preparations for them. But previously, the President voiced his preference for barangays to be just appointed, not elected.

Passenger Safety, Convenience In Malls’ Vehicle Terminals Checked

AFTER closing down at least 19 bus stations along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in recent months, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is now training its guns on transport terminals operating in shopping malls.

Aside from the lack of necessary permits from local government units and violating the “nose-in, nose-out” policy implemented along EDSA, most of the closed terminals also lack proper sanitation facilities and adequate waiting areas for passengers. 

Transport Undersecretary Thomas Orbos has reminded mall operators that they too should ensure passengers’ safety and convenience even as they intend to check if shopping malls operating vehicle…

Hybrid Electric Road Train In GenSan

This month, the 40-meter long Hybrid Electric Road Train developed by Filipino engineers from Department of Science and Technology Metals Industry Research and Development Center (DOST-MIRDC) is expected to hit the highways of General Santos City. Its trial run was made in Cebu City last February.

The train consists of five interlinked air-conditioned coaches that can hold up to 240 passengers per trip. It is expected to solve traffic congestion of General Santos by providing this modern technological solution.
