ONE important development in the business front that is not getting enough public attention because of fast and fluid developments in the political front is the controversial legal tiff-off between the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) against telecommunications industry giants Philippine Long Distance Telephone and Globe Telecom.

The legal tussle started after the PCC decided to look if there was possible unfair business practices in the recent acquisition by the two huge firms of the P70-billion telecommunication assets of San Miguel Corporation (SMC).

SEN. VICENTE Sotto III has a point when he suggested that the state-run Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) could help play a vital role in the government’s campaign to solve the problem of illegal drugs in the country.

Given the fact that drug addiction is categorized by medical practitioners as a form of disease and not simply as an illegal vice, it is about time therefore that Philhealth and the Department of Health (DOH) for that matter to step in and help in addressing the problem.

UNLIKE the outgoing Aquino administration the incoming Duterte government seems determined to really address the traffic congestion problems especially in Metro Manila which it described as ‘bringing shame to Filipinos here and abroad’.
