URBAN WARFARE TRAINING
Editorial cartoon by Ed Rompal

So, the fighting in Marawi has not really stopped even as President Duterte has declared the liberation of the war-torn Islamic City.

Last week, Australian Defense Minister Marise Payne committed to send small contingents of Australian soldiers to train Philippine troops in defending themselves against terrorist threats.

Although Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana admitted that our local forces need to work with experienced Australian troops on strategic fighting the foreign soldiers will not be part of the actual battle should attacks occur.

Dubbing the partnership as “a practical training”, this includes a range of urbn combat skills,…

Can Metro Pacific, Ayala Corp. Really Make MRT-3 Viable?
Editorial cartoon by Ed Rompal

The partnership between Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and Ayala Corp. has offered P20 billion to rehabilitate, operate, and maintain Metro Rail Transit Line 3 that plies the 16.8-kilometer EDSA route from SM North to Taft Avenue.

Editorial cartoon by Ed Rompal

Where is it coming from? All we know is that fake news is having its time in our space.

COMMUNICATING ONLY THE BEST

They were like kids, these bloggers, fighting over a piece of candy bar.

After gaining so much air and print space and public attention, one of them acted like an untouchable king while the other paled at being eclipsed. An ally deduced this as “away bakla lang” that, at the end of the day, magkakakampi na ulit sila. And then the one who exposed this virtual skirmish on video went on and off Facebook.

Members of this troika that made such a fuss…

MAKING OUR SEAS SAFE AGAIN

IN HER 2014 report for the Worldwide Ferry Safety Association entitled ‘Improving the Safety of the Philippines Ferry System’, Abigail Golden of Columbia University was able to trace the main causes of major ship accidents in the country for the period 2000 to 2012.

Golden’s study revealed that the main reasons for at least 15 sea incidents that occurred during that period included passenger overloading, stormy weather, vessels’ crew that are poorly trained in accident scenarios, improperly stowed or balanced cargo,  vessels malfunctions and old and second-hand ships.

Of all these reasons, second-hand and aged sea vessels were pinpointed as…
