ASEAN’S RIGHTFUL GLOBAL SPOT
Editorial cartoon by Ed Rompal

Manila is host to the ASEAN Summit.

Now on its 50th year, President Duterte has seen profound parallelism between the ASEAN hosting and his leadership agenda.

The ASEAN Summit theme, “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World”, has significance to the Duterte campaign catchphrase “Change is Coming’ as he looks at his 16 million supporters as “Partners for Change”.

The theme was decided on in last year’s ASEAN meetings in Vientiane, Laos, where the President also accepted chairmanship for this year’s summit.

With this, Duterte embarked on trips to member-nations of ASEAN, a 10-country group of Asian…

URBAN WARFARE TRAINING
Editorial cartoon by Ed Rompal

So, the fighting in Marawi has not really stopped even as President Duterte has declared the liberation of the war-torn Islamic City.

Last week, Australian Defense Minister Marise Payne committed to send small contingents of Australian soldiers to train Philippine troops in defending themselves against terrorist threats.

COMMUNICATING ONLY THE BEST

They were like kids, these bloggers, fighting over a piece of candy bar.

After gaining so much air and print space and public attention, one of them acted like an untouchable king while the other paled at being eclipsed. This queer-named blogger taunted the other for getting an accreditation in the coming ASEAN conference in Manila. An ally deduced this as “away bakla lang” that, at the end of the day, magkakakampi na ulit sila. And then the one who exposed this virtual skirmish on video went on and off Facebook.

Members of this troika that made such a fuss…

Can Metro Pacific, Ayala Corp. Really Make MRT-3 Viable?
Editorial cartoon by Ed Rompal

The partnership between Metro Pacific Investments Corp. and Ayala Corp. has offered P20 billion to rehabilitate, operate, and maintain Metro Rail Transit Line 3 that plies the 16.8-kilometer EDSA route from SM North to Taft Avenue.

In the last few years, what should be the fastest and most convenient conveyance has been breaking down as often as once a week, stops in between stations, no air-conditioning, or locks in commuters for hours. This year is the worse as the breakdown for whatever reason has increased to at least twice in a week. Running at only…

IS FAKE NEWS A NEW GENRE?

Editorial cartoon by Ed Rompal

Where is it coming from? All we know is that fake news is having its time in our space.

Last week, Senator Grace Poe’s committee on public information held a hearing on fake news proliferating social media platforms. Without mentioning names here, most popular bloggers invited to the hearing belong to the Generation Z. These bloggers boldly and daringly, to the point of haughtiness, ingenuity, and superiority, spread what is considered as fabricated and spurious news.  Some call it entitlement.

Generational expert Michael Wood, a principal at 747 Insights blogsite, called Gen Z members…
