HOUSE OF ‘REPRESENTATHIEVES’ NO MORE

FOR the longest time, the Filipino people have been looking and waiting for leaders who would best represent and protect their interests.

It is good to know therefore that the present political leadership under President Rodrigo Duterte has been trying its best to live up to its campaign promises of uplifting the lives of the ordinary people.

But what is more notable is the fact even the House of Representatives  which has been derisively described in the past as ‘House of Representathieves’ is also doing more than its fair share in helping the cause of the masses through its well…

LEARNING FROM PAST MISTAKES

IF we want to move forward economically as a country, there is really a need to construct a fast, efficient and state of the art national broadband network.

The reports therefore that the government might start building this year what it described as hybrid model national broadband network was a welcome development for everyone.

In a presser, Information and Communications Technology Secretary Rodolfo Salalima was quoted as saying that their project would aspire to serve at bringing internet access to mainly underserved areas in the countryside.

DELICADEZA

IN THE Philippines, delicadeza is one word that is known to almost everybody but its application and definition seem to vary from one person to another, especially to many of our high ranking government officials.

Incumbent Education Secretary Leonor Briones once defined delicadeza as a behavior anchored on generally accepted moral standards, thus, its concept can be discerned in laws, rules and regulations concerning behavior of public officials.

During the confrontation, Alvarez reminded Singson of…

MORE THAN A VISION

THE DUTERTE government particularly the state planning agency National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is obviously upbeat after President Duterte recently approved the proposed Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022.

The economic roadmap will serve as the administration’s development blueprint which hopefully would pave the way for an inclusive growth and slash poverty in the country to 14% by 2022 or five years from now.

Right at the outset, President Duterte has expressed his determination to reduce poverty, especially in the provinces, as well as generate jobs through sustained robust economic growth in the next six years in line with his…

SECURITY THREATS

SOME sectors especially those from the far-right were demanding that the leftist members of President Duterte’s Cabinet should leave their posts following the breakdown of peace talks between the government and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano, Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo and National Anti-Poverty Commission Secretary Liza Maza are among the three most prominent members of the Duterte government who are identified with the left.

It is not hard to believe however that there are thousands of others who occupy various positions in the administration who also share their political persuasions.

Those…
