NEDA’S APPLICATION FOR PHILIPPINE AIR FORCE AFFILIATION APPROVED

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has approved the application for affiliation of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) as a reserve unit of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

The application, which was unanimously approved by members of AFP’s Affiliated Reserve Unit Organization Board during its July 3, 2019 meeting, will be endorsed to Defense Secretary Delfin N. Lorenzana and President Rodrigo R. Duterte for official confirmation.

“With NEDA being affiliated to Air Force as its reserve unit, the agency can go beyond its main task of providing technical assessments and policy advice on the economy. Its officials and employees can now serve alongside the Air Force in times of emergency, calamity, and disaster,” NEDA Undersecretary Jose Miguel R. de la Rosa, who was present at the board meeting, said.

Col. Royland Orquia, chair and deputy chief of staff for AFP’s Reservist and Retiree Affairs, was presiding over the meeting.

De la Rosa noted that NEDA, its regional offices, and the PAF’s reserve centers would mutually benefit from the partnership, which will include engagement in times of calamity and other emergencies, training on disaster management, community services, and harmonization of plans for regional and local development.

“The Armed Forces and NEDA, through the Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022, share the same goals on security, disaster resilience, and the recovery and rehabilitation of communities affected by calamities and conflicts,” he said.

De la Rosa encouraged NEDA employees to volunteer in NEDA-AFP joint community programs and projects and undergo necessary training to qualify for enlistment in the AFP’s Reserve Force.

Early this year, NEDA and PAF signed the Memorandum of Agreement on the affiliation in Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
