New schoolbuilding to be turned over to Balanga ES

Balanga Elementary School is receiving this Friday (May 31) the newly-built two-storey, 4-classrooms schoolbuilding from SM Foundation, the 93rd schoolbuilding built and donated by the foundation throughout the country.

Funded by SM Prime, the schoolbuilding is fully-furnished with 200 armchairs, 4 sets of teachers’ tables/chairs, 16 wall fans, 8 blackboards, 4 wall clocks and four toilets inside the classrooms plus a toilet at the ground floor for the disabled. Four school desks per classrooms will be made available for left-handed students to make learning (writing especially) more convenient for them.

The armchairs and teachers’ desks and chairs were all built for PWDs by the Foundation for these-abled Inc., which the foundation has been supporting because of its belief that “SM just do not donate but boosts the PWD’s self-pride and self-esteem with every furniture they make.”

The building is also emergency-ready with a staircase on both sides of the building, fire alarm bell and emergency lights at the staircase landings.

Two new innovations come with the schoolbuilding to be donated: a book corner with books, shelves and some chairs and 10-faucet handwashing facility outside the building, to promote personal hygiene among the grades schoolers and others in the school.

The foundation is also donating the wall clocks in support of the Department of Education’s Project WATCH (to promote time consciousness and honesty) to students, teachers and support staff of the school.

At least 15,000 students benefit from the 93 schoolbuildings constructed and donated by the foundation with 300 classrooms including 14,850 armchairs (of which 180 are left-handers), 594 blackboards, 296 teachers’ desks; 1,182 wall fans, 305 washrooms including PWD toilets.

Balanga Elementary School is also home to a building declared by the National Historical Commission as a national heritage building and one of the best museums in the country, where artifacts and documents on the battle of Bataan and other important historical accounts and mementos can be found.

Previous to the schoolbuilding donation, events like a book reading would be held by SM Retail and turnover of books by the SM Retail and the turnover of donated computers to Balanga ES by the SM Pampanga.

As Carolina Sugpatan Violeta, OIC, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd in Balanga said: “The generosity of SM Foundation proves that humanity exists. God bless SM more.”
