Painter Tanseco asks justice for his mom’s death

By Boy Villasanta

Tension was felt at the recent death of matriarch Rosalinda Gorgonio Tanseco recently when painter Francis Tanseco flew in supposedly for a vacation with her but ended up mourning her loss, which he said was due to the neglect of his siblings and relatives.

Francis is the painter of Nora Aunor and Imelda Marcos who is still grieving and asking justice for the death of his mom. “Nailibing na mama ko (My mom is already buried) today but somebody got away with murder. May Divine Justice prevail swiftly),” exclaimed Francis, a nurse and an artist based in the US.

“Smile, even though your heart is aching,” he sighed echoing the song of the late balladeer Nat King Cole.

He said that he has just finished a painting of her mother to be given to her as a surprise gift when they would see each other early this year. “I was planning an art exhibit to honor you mama. Alam mo yan, pero pinatay ka nila (You knew that, but they killed you),” posted Francis in his Facebook. Prior to this art activity, Tanseco also painted many art works on the images of Nora and Imelda in the United Kingdom where he used to work as a nurse.

According to Francis, his mom came to the Philippines for vacation but she eventually got sick. He accused some members of his family of negligence. “She died because they didn’t intensively and extensively take care of her. I went back to the Philippines to see her and join in her vacation but what did I get? I was able to see and talk to her at her deathbed but it was too late,” said Francis.

“I didn’t attend the funeral of my mom because I wanted my family to be reminded that they still have the responsibility even if she is already dead,” he added.

In a lighter tone, though, Francis said his mom was an incurable Noranian. “Whenever we were driving in a car in California, she would listen and sing along with the songs of Nora I was playing in the car stereo,” informed Francis.

Francis held a one-man show at the Rizal Park Open Auditorium on Nora some years ago and mounted excerpts from his original musical “Imeldarella,” a tribute to the former first lady at the 500 Shaw Mall in Mandaluyong City in 2013.

In memoriam, Francis wrote: “I was writing my mother's story since 2008 back in London, United Kingdom to honor my mother. Her story was never published as I was still working on it. I was planning to present it to her at the right time but not at a time when she is already gone. Till we meet again, Mama.”
