While Kristoffer King was lying in state late February at the Manila Memorial Park, his son with Hunter Syndrome was suffering from measles, now an outbreak in the country.

Death and illness didn’t spare this award-winning actor and glamour god Kristoffer King who died of complications from diabetes on February 23, 2019.

His remains laid in state at the Rizal Memorial Chapel in Pasay City while his son was having measles.

“Mabuti na lang at wala siyang lagnat (It’s good he’s no fever),” wryly smiled Nikki Reyes, Kristoffer’s better half during the funeral wake. “Pinatutuyo na lang namin (We just let it dry),” she added.

According to Google, Hunter Syndrome or mucopolysaccharidosis type II (MPS II) is a lysosomalstorage disease caused by a deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme iduronate-2-sulfatase (I2S).

Kristoffer’s other son who also has Hunter Syndrome was inside the room of the chapel and didn’t mingle with the guests and mourners while the other four children including three girls were either playing or being cajoled by their mom.

What are your plans after the burial?

“Wala pa. Magpapahinga muna ako. Isang linggo na akong walang pahinga at tulog. Pagod na pagod ako. Ang bigat-bigat ng ulo ko (Nothing yet. I will rest first. I’ve been restless and sleepless for one week. My head is too heavy,” revealed Nikki who said that everything was alright about the funeral expenses.

Kristoffer, Christopher Sioco Reyes in real life, was renting a small house in Norzagaray in Bulacan where he went home after every show biz commitment.

“Umuuwi sa amin si Kristoffer kahit na madaling-araw. Nagdyi-jeep at nagbu-bus ‘yan pauwi. Naka-salamin siya para hindi makilala (Kristoffer went home even at the wee hours of the morning. He would ride in jeeps and buses going home. He was in shades so that he wouldn’t be recognized),” recalled Nikki.

Although she confirmed that Kristoffer gave her and her kids the things they needed, they are bereft of many things to live by.

But his kin which include stepmom Abegail Reyes who was always around during the wake promised to take care of his family.
