Noranians to do outreach in remote barangay of Quezon Province

Noranians don’t only scream their heads off (hollow as it may seem) when idol Nora Aunor is around, they dream as well of a just, happy and meaningful life for everyone. It is because most of them represent the marginalized in Philippine society just as La Aunor is the idol and image of the masses.

The Noranians’ initiative for tomorrow,  April 14, 2018 speaks well of their shared social involvement with the underprivileged. Billed “Handog sa Kabataan ng mga Noranians,” the outreach program extends the loving arms of Nora fans to the poor people, especially the youth of Lopez, Quezon particularly in Barangay Sta. Teresa, a village northeast of the town.

According to Anna Marie Abu, a Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Human Resources Department employee and a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Public Administration (UPCPA), the initiative was thought of by 8 Noranians, including her, to advocate community humanitarian services.

“Marami pong Noranians na gustong makatulong sa ating mga kababayan (There are many Noranians who want to help our town mates),” said Anna Marie.

Noranians as Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from as far the Middle East, migrants and acquired citizens of Canada, United States and Australia have manifested and given support, financial and otherwise to the gift-giving ceremony.

The outreach is just one of the many socio-civic projects of Noranians all over the country.

“This is one way of giving back to what we owe the people,” Abu quipped.

Tomorrow morning, the group will have a swimming party at the Pulong Niogan Beach in Lopez and at 2 p.m. the sharing of joy and gifts will ensue.

What makes the event unique is its way of transporting the givers and the gifts from the Lopez town proper to the remote barrio.

Noranians will get the feel of an exciting ride in a skits, a railroad transport made up of a bearing wheel and a makeshift open wooden coach that ferry Lopezeños and Lopezeñas from one barangay to the other along railtracks.

In her video greetings, Nora expressed her warm regard and thanks to the pupils and students of Don Rodolfo F. Agra Elementary School, formerly Sta. Teresa Elementary School which she mistakenly identifies as Lopez, Quezon Elementary School.
