Lovi and Erich really hurt each on the set

By Boy Villasanta

You think slapping and hair-pulling scenes on TV and film are just camera tricks or stylized movements?

            Think again.

We are already in the post-modern times and camera illusions were things of the past like in the movies of Bella Flores beating Nora Aunor to pieces or Etang Discher maltreating Susan Roces in a vendetta or underdog scene.

It might also be true that there are ways to skin the mudslinging scenes between a protagonist and antagonist but realism is the most beautiful spectacle of them all. Realism, in the sense that no one gets hurt in the process but only exaggerated actions to achieve a realistic effect just the same.

Take for instance the heavy dramatic confrontation between young actresses Lovi Poe and Erich Gonzales in the film “The Significant Other” directed by Joel Lamangan. The two actresses are supposed to exchange acerbic and venomous diatribes before a fashion show audience and to physically, violently hurt each other over one man. Lovi’s character is married to Tom Rodriguez’s persona while Erich’s role is the mistress of Tom. The best of friends’ fashion models are to hurt each other to prove possession of one man.

According to entertainment writer Pilar Mateo, Gonzales and Poe really did hurt each other in a slapping moment which was confirmed by Lovi. “Talaga po, sa(Really, because of my) passion ko to fight for the love I shower my husband, Erich and I almost bled when I attacked her,” informed Poe.

The tussle was able to build much tension to affirm the respective rights and emotions of a wife and a paramour.

The wrangle was very realistic Lovi and Erich were really carried away by the scene.

Meanwhile, Gonzales had intimated that she would let herself be the other woman in any relationship in the future. “Being a mistress isn’t my cup of tea,” she would speak up her mind to the media people.
