Saab Magalona is irked by write-up

By Boy Villasanta

Young star Saab Magalona is upset.

It started when entertainment writer Rey Pumaloy saw photos in social media of Saab wearing bikini in her “infanticipating” stage. It was done in a beach for the bachelorette party of sister Maxene Magalona who’s engaged to fashion model Robbie Mananquil.

Rey in his candid comments wrote that Saab’s form was “katakam-takam” (delicious) and “malaman” (fleshy). The Filipino language adjectives seemingly offended Magalona’s sensibility as she retorted to the writer’s column as “sexualizing” the scene.

Pumaloy bantered in and said in his Facebook page that the young actress shouldn’t have posted those pictures so that the public wouldn’t say anything about them.

Most of Saab’s supporters were reacting negatively on the write-up harping on the tabloidal contents and style of the story and they wouldn’t take it sitting down. Some of them even said they had to take a bath to cleanse themselves of the dirt, a euphemism used to connote tabloid reporting of sex, blood and gore.

But friends of Rey readily came to his rescue. “E, gano’n talaga ang tabloid reporting. Kailangang may dating (That’s what tabloid reporting is all about. There should be some kind of an ‘it’) to attract attention especially to the masses,” defended movie writer Dave Rojo.

“Ano namang masama ro’n, e, nagko-comment lang naman ni Rey (What’s wrong with it when Rey was just commenting on the photos),” asserted Art Tapalla.

According to Rojo, if Pumaloy’s comments were written in blogs and other social media, Magalona would not even lift her finger because the computer is the language of the millennial and tabloids are more traditional and cater to the mature ones mostly.
