Bong Revilla’s sis celebrates birthday in his detention cell

By Boy Villasanta

It’s next to impossible to secure a permit from authorities to visit Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame. Add to that, attempts to phone patch with a visitor inside his cell is absolutely impossible as cell phones are banned inside.

It was Bong’s sis Andrea Bautista-Ynares’ birthday Sunday afternoon but we didn’t have the official pass to be able to greet her and him.

But according to veteran entertainment writer Alice Vergara, the actor promised that we’d be allowed to meet up with him next Sunday. We learned of the advisory late Sunday evening although we were already outside the PNP Custodial Center in the afternoon. No phone was allowed inside so it wasn’t an easy communication with Alice.

We saw character actor Edwin Reyes, one of Bong’s trusted friends who alighted from his car with a woman in tow. Later, Edwin went back to his car and opened its back compartment. He picked up a boxful of kit-kat (known among Filipinos as little oranges prevalent during holidays) and brought it into the center. Aware that it would take us forever to be able to enter the premises, we went to another interview.

Here goes Vergara’s account on actress Andrea’s birthday party inside Revilla’s detention cell instead:

“As early as three o’clock in the afternoon, I was in a bus to Camp Crame to visit Bong and to celebrate the birthday party there of his sister Andrea Bautista. Sadly, it was raining hard. As a senior citizen, it was not easy for me to take a public transport especially on a rainy day. My eyesight is already poor and my mobility is not quite as fast as before. People tell me not to move around anymore but I like going to showbiz gatherings no matter.

“Visiting Bong is part of my commitment to him. He’s like a younger brother to me. It’s like I am already a part of the family, of the Bautista and Revilla families. I’ve been writing about the Revillas since God knows when. Ramon Revilla, Sr. was doing Sampaguita Pictures’ and I would write about him. He was the perennial love team of Gloria Romero.

“So this Sunday’s visit is a filial visit. My name is already in the list of regular Bong visitors.

“Oh my God, it was fun when Andrea celebrated her birthday with his brother. Naku, ang saya. Although it was really still painful for the Revillas knowing that one of them is inside the detention cell.

“Everybody was present except for Marlon Bautista and wife Gigi de la Riva. Princess Revilla was there. Rowena Bautista was there, too. Of course, Strike Revilla was there. I missed Jolo Revilla. But Bryan Bautista was there. Rowena’s daughters are already big. Was it only yesterday that they were toddlers?

“The patriarch, Ramon Revilla, Sr. was there on the special occasion. He was even ahead of his daughter.

“Andrea shed tears on her birthday. She said that she was very happy to see her dad around. According to her, she wanted to fetch him up from his house in Cavite but she was surprised to see him ahead of her instead. Don Ramon was in wheelchair when he arrived.

“Andrea’s husband, Antipolo Mayor Dr. Casimiro Ynares III was there. They were really a couple.

“Andrea is an actress having done many movies and she used to be an anchor on television when Radio Philippines Network or RPN Channel 9 was still very active.

“Jinggoy Estrada also paid Bong a visit and celebrated with Andrea’s birthday.”
