ABIS to launch mentoring program for ASEAN micro small enterprises

For the first time in 50 years, the Association of Southeast Asian nations will highlight in next week’s leaders’ business summit the importance of women and youth empowerment to growing ASEAN economies; synchronizing business procedures for a more favorable linkage and business environment within the bloc and to launch a mentoring network for the bustling micro small and medium enterprises.

With the Philippines playing host to the yearlong ASEAN Business Advisory Council ASEAN meetings and events, the culmination of which is the ASEAN Business Investment Summit, leaders not just from ASEAN but from first world economies and heads of multilateral funding institutions will be witnessing these vital issues affecting their prosperity and growth  of Asean which would finally take center stage, after 50 years of being in the back burner.

A cause for excitement is the launch of AMEN (ASEAN Mentorship for Entrepreneurs Network), a private-public partnership platform where mentors and world-class teaching modules for MSMEs can be developed and actively shared among members.

The ASEAN Business and Investment Summit 2017 (ABIS 2017) is set to be a three-day conference that presents the premiere annual business event of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council that brings attention to the business, investment opportunities, issues, and directions in the ASEAN today. It is organized to serve as a platform for conversations among regional and global stakeholders in the ASEAN Economic Community. These stakeholders are expected to be business leaders, public personalities, entrepreneurs, and entities considered as thought-leaders in their respective fields.

As Joey Concepcion, Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship and Chairman of ASEAN BAC said, ABIS is the biggest business and state leaders’ event to be staged, moving towards shared prosperity.

The roundtable for unleashing women economic empowerment and human capital development will gather prominent women leaders to share their knowledge and experience to shed light on the necessary measures addressing gender gap in labor and entrepreneurial opportunities towards female economic empowerment.

ABIS aims to give a more focused and definite direction to the ASEAN economy, which already attracted $136.2 billion in foreign direct investments in 2014, of which nearly 20 percent came from member nations.

It also gives greater and more sustainable roles and direction to the region’s MSMEs including the youth sector, both enablers and critical users of technology, while taking into account the knowledge that roughly half of their respective populations are women.

With the theme “World Leaders’ Roadmap towards prosperity for all,” ABIS 2017 aligns with the Prosperity for All thrust of the ASEAN BAC under the chairmanship of ASEAN 50.

The summit will sketch a blueprint in achieving ASEAN 100 and the true meaning of the ASEAN Economic Community.
